The Krakow Ghetto Pharmacy

One Polish pharmacist's eyewitness account of life inside the Kraków Ghetto.

First published in 1947, Tadeusz Pankiewicz's memoir is one of the most important firsthand accounts of the Holocaust in occupied Poland. As the owner of the famous "Under the Eagle" pharmacy, located inside the Kraków Ghetto, Pankiewicz witnessed the persecution, deportations and final liquidation of the Jewish community.

For over two years, his pharmacy became much more than a place to obtain medicine. It served as a refuge, a meeting point and a vital link between those imprisoned in the ghetto and the outside world. Messages, newspapers and parcels passed through its doors, while countless people found help and hope within its walls.

Written shortly after the end of World War II, this powerful memoir preserves the memory of the victims and offers an extraordinary testimony to courage, compassion and humanity in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

A remarkable historical document for readers interested in the Holocaust, World War II and the history of occupied Poland.
